Italy → Vancouver €1,864, Montreal → Italy €1,647, domestic Calgary → Toronto €375. €3,886 for two.
Stays
20 nights in 11 places via Airbnb and Booking: €2,947, €147.35 per night for two. Airbnb (13 nights, city stays of 2–4 nights): €2,102, €161.69/night. Booking (7 nights, mostly one-night road stops): €845, €120.71/night.
Car
Two rentals: Vancouver–Calgary €759, Toronto–Montreal €585, €1,344 in total. On the road: fuel €178.99, car extras €143.07, parking €67.86. Car total €1,733.92 for two (our sum).
Tours and tickets
Booked online: €824.54 for two (Capilano Suspension Bridge, Sea to Sky Gondola, Columbia Icefield, Niagara Falls, CN Tower, an MLB game, Casa Loma, ROM, Quebec Citadel, Vancouver Lookout, Notre-Dame Montreal, Moraine Lake shuttle). Bought on site: €140.12.

Where we saved (and where we didn't)
- One-night Booking stays cost us about €41 less per night than Airbnbs.
- A domestic flight (€375 for two) and two separate rentals instead of driving across the country.
- Food was the biggest on-trip item: half of on-trip spend.
- Long-haul flights were about a third of the total (€3,511).
